Format: Hardcover, Book of the Month

⚠️ Trigger warning: Death of parent, infertility, cancer, suicide ideation

A woman struggling with burnout learns to embrace the unexpected—and the man she enlists to help her—in this new New York Times bestselling romance by Helen Hoang.

When violinist Anna Sun accidentally achieves career success with a viral YouTube video, she finds herself incapacitated and burned out from her attempts to replicate that moment. And when her longtime boyfriend announces he wants an open relationship before making a final commitment, a hurt and angry Anna decides that if he wants an open relationship, then she does, too. Translation: She’s going to embark on a string of one-night stands. The more unacceptable the men, the better.

That’s where tattooed, motorcycle-riding Quan Diep comes in. Their first attempt at a one-night stand fails, as does their second, and their third, because being with Quan is more than sex—he accepts Anna on an unconditional level that she herself has just started to understand. However, when tragedy strikes Anna’s family she takes on a role that she is ill-suited for, until the burden of expectations threatens to destroy her. Anna and Quan have to fight for their chance at love, but to do that, they also have to fight for themselves.

I’ve been excited about this book since reading Book 1 in the series, The Kiss Quotient. If you’ve read the first two books in this series, then I don’t need to tell you how much we all wanted a book about Quan. Who doesn’t love Quan? Lol. Now I will say this, I do think Anna is more of the star of this book, but we still get a taste of seeing Quan grow & overcome some heavy challenges.

This book is about Quan & Anna. Anna meets Quan online after being told by her current boyfriend, Julian, that he wanted an open relationship. Anna & Quan meet up for the first time with the intent of having a one night stand, however every time they try, it never works out. This leads to them getting into a serious, romantic relationship.

Let me just say this, I hated Julian. He disgusted me & treated Anna like crap. So seeing Quan & Anna blossom into a loving & caring relationship really pulled all my heart strings.

This book is definitely an emotion jerker & deals with some pretty heavy topics (mentioned above in the trigger warning). But I think that’s what made me love this book so much. I also love how therapy is portrayed in a positive light in this book. You definitely have to be in the right mental space if you are going to read this as it feels so real as you turn each page. You have your typical conflict in every romance, but the conflict in this book is different.

My Rating:

Have you read this book or the series? What did you think?
