overview
For months I stood by, an understudy waiting in the wings, preparing for my time to shine. I never imagined he would watch in the audience that night.
Canon Holt. Famous film director. Fascinating. Talented. Fine.
Before I could catch my breath, everything changed. I went from backstage Broadway to centerstage Hollywood. From being unknown to my name, Neevah Saint, on everyone’s lips.
Canon casts me in a star-studded Harlem Renaissance biopic, catapulting me into another stratosphere.
But stars shine brightest in the dead of night. Forbidden attraction, scandal, and circumstances beyond my control jeopardize my dream.
Could this one shot – the role of a lifetime, the love of a lifetime – cost me everything?

I enjoyed this book. I actually listened to the audiobook because I read so many reviews about how amazing it was. The audiobook definitely lived up to it’s hype. The singing was beautiful and the narration was on point.

Listening to this book was like listening to a broadway romance. The romance easily grabbed my attention. The characters felt like real people. Honestly, I wished that I was watching a visual of the book more so than listening to an audio version of it.

Canon and Neevah seemed to have a really solid relationship that I enjoyed see played out throughout the book. Neevah has a pretty interesting background. Neevah was going to give up her dream of performing to marry her high school sweetheart. She eventually found out that he was cheating on her with her SISTER! and left him to finish pursuing her dreams. Canon is a director who is looking for the perfect woman to star in his film. He see’s Neevah and is dead set on having her in his film. Even tho Neevah refuses to get involved with him, they end up developing a relationship.

This is my first read by Kennedy Ryan and I enjoyed the book. However, I do feel for a romance book, this book was wayyy too long. Seeing that this book is advertised as book 1 in a series, I felt it could have been shorter. UNLESS, each book is going to be about different characters, then I can understand the need for want to add a lot of detail in one book. If there is going to be a part two, I am excited to be adding that to my TBR! Also, if you plan on reading the book, I highly suggest the audio version.

My Rating:

4 star
